Kirton Gold Back to Back

KIRTON GOLD GO BACK TO BACK    by Geoff Sinclair.

At Tumby Bay on Saturday 16th. March, with a powerful display of bowls,  Kirton Gold soundly defeated Tumby Purple 86 shots to 45 to win the SEPBA Saturday Division 2 Pennant for the 2018/19 Season. This win backs up their win of last year making it two in a row for the Gold Side.

Kirton’s Graeme Wohling defeated Geoff Pearce 32/12, Bevan Brine defeated  Wayne Branson 28/13 and Leon Paterson won from Bruce Lawrie in a closer game 26/20.

These sides have been neck and neck on the ladder for most of the season, with Kirton Gold having the upper hand in their two minor round meetings. They met in the Semi Finals with Tumby Purple winning this clash by one shot, the narrowest of margins, setting up a Preliminary final meeting of Kirton Gold with Cummins Gold. Kirton was the victor by 21 shots setting up what was expected to be a close and hard fought Grand Final with Tumby Gold.

The 12 Kirton players all came to play that day and the result speaks for itself.

Congratulations must go to those players who either played the odd few games during the season or who played the final for their efforts in making the side successful. Commiserations to the Tumby Purple side who were gallant in defeat. If that group continue to play together next year, I am sure they will feature in finals again.
